So here we go: Solo leveling Episode One Analysis
Episode 1 Recap: “I’m used to it”
In the first episode of Solo Leveling, we’re thrown three years back, witnessing a navy officer questioning his superior as to why they are not fighting, only to learn that it’s best to leave it to the hunters. Next, we jump to the chaotic scene where Low-Rank Hunters are fighting ant-like-looking monsters, with S-rank hunters rescuing them. Meanwhile, Guild Master Choi and his crew are engaged in another battle.
The episode dives into the universe’s back story, revealing that ten years ago, gates emerged, connecting the human world to a dimension of magic beasts immune to standard weapons. This phenomenon led to the rise of awakened individuals called “Hunters”. They are ranked from S to E based on their magical powers.
Three years later, Sung Jinwoo, renowned as the “Weakest Hunter of All Mankind” joins a raid. He encounters a fellow hunter named Johee, who questions his injuries from a previous E-rank dungeon, and then both of them attend a raid meeting led by Song Chiyul. On the other side, Chairman Go discusses the government’s interest in dungeon resources, like essence stones and mana crystals.
Go reveals the government’s plan to use Essence for clean energy. In Sung’s raid, they face magic beasts. Park saves Sung, who is struggling. Sung’s group defeats the boss, but Joohee worries about Sung’s Injuries. Later on, they find a cave, possibly leading to another dungeon. Sung decides to proceed, driven by his family’s situation.
Meanwhile, Guild Master Choi discusses new hunters, favouring S-Rank hunter Cha Hae-In. Sung’s group heads to the second dungeon’s boss. Chairman Go addresses new hunters, cautioning them. In the dungeon, a scripture reveals danger, and the statues in the dungeon attack Sung’s group. Sung’s reflects on his dungeon experiences. The episode ends with Sung questioning their survival.
My Thoughts on Episode 1:
In my view, the first episode didn’t disappoint, presenting viewers with top-notch animation and introducing standout characters like Sung, Joohee, and Chairman Go who immediately stood out. What really grabbed my attention was the glimpse into the sophisticated world of hunter ranks and the awards awaiting them on their expeditions. Sung’s character development, from being the underdo to dealing with family issues, added a layer of depth that resonates with me on a personal level.
Sure, the end of the first episode might have been somewhat expected, but it was undeniably thrilling leaving me desperate to know how Sung and his allies are going to make it alive. I hope the second episode delivers a more delightful experience. That’s all for now for Solo leveling Episode One Analysis.
